This Month's book discussion will be “The Frozen River,” by Ariel Lawhon

We get together on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 1:00 PM. Our titles are chosen based on member suggestions, and we have quite a varied slate: fiction and non-fiction, classic and current, bios, science, social science, history, mystery, travel.

If you have any questions, please contact Chris L.

The afternoon book group will meet at the home of Diane W. We will discuss "The Frozen River," a gripping historical mystery based on the diary of Martha Ballard, an 18th-century midwife who found herself at the center of a murder trial.

For years, Martha recounted her every day in a leather-bound journal: deaths and births, the weather, town events, her patients and their treatments. As whispers and prejudices threaten to overflow into something bloodier, Martha’s diary becomes the center of a mystery that risks tearing both her family and her town apart. Lawhon, a NYT best-selling author, brings to life a heroine who refused to accept anything less than justice on behalf of women no one else would protect.
